An independent artist and educator, Pamela Pietro is an Associate Arts Professor and Associate Chair at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Department of Dance. She is the Director of Tisch Dance Summer Residency Festival, Tisch Dance in Berlin Study Abroad Program and Future Dancers and Dancemakers. Her commitment to Tisch granted her the prestigious David Payne-Carter Award for Teaching Excellence in 2013. Pietro received her Master of Fine Art in Dance with a minor in Biomedical Ethics from the University of Washington and her Bachelor of Fine Art in Dance from Florida State University. She currently serves on the Bessie Awards Search Committee. 

Her international exposure includes teaching, choreography and solo performance work; Newtown High School for the Performing Arts in Sydney, Australia, La Salle Academy in Singapore, ASWARA Dance in Malaysia, Momentum Danza in Panama, Tsekh Festival in Moscow, Russia, Ekoda de Dance at Nippon University in Tokyo, Japan, National Academy of Arts Culture and Heritage in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, local companies and certificate programs in Mumbai, India, Minzu University, Beijing Normal University and National Academy of Dance and Drama. She performed and taught at the Dance RoundTable in Taipei, Taiwan as well as the 2018 JD-Korea Summer Dance Festival (JD-KSDF), which took place on the campus of Jeon Buk University in Jeonju City and The New Beijing Dance Festival at Rui Hung’s gallery (2018). Pietro was a gold medal winner at the Asiagraph Video/Choreography competition in Shanghai, China. 

Her national choreographic presentations include Dancespace Miami, Sarasota Contemporary Dance Company in Florida, dulcedanceco in Arizona, Meredith College in North Carolina, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Danspace Food for Thought + Draftworks, Dance New Amsterdam, Fridays at Noon 92nd St Y and Triskelion in New York.

She was a faculty member for the American Dance Festival from 1997-2017. In October 2018, she worked with ADF in China, under the direction of Hou Ying. Other international work includes, curating a dance festival in Berlin which included artists: Johannes Wieland, Judith Sánchéz-Ruiz, Meg Stuart, Yael Schnell, Ayman Harper. 

Pietro performed professionally with Gerri Houlihan and Dancers, Michael Foley Dance, RaceDance, bopi’s black sheep/dances, Mark Haim, Jennifer Nugent and Monica Bill Barnes. She is presently collaborating with choreographer Jasmine Hearn.

Pietro toured her solo, SOLAS, with a group of women choreographers to Sweden, Tampa, Vermont, Florida, Michigan, Boston, Texas and New York City from 2015-2016. Her current work explores being a solo woman artist using deconstructed improvisational scores. Pietro’s dance, choreography and educational careers connect with her pilates instruction and neuromuscular rehabilitation specialty.
